Blood service hosts project in Bethal
Support blood collection project on December 3.
BETHAL – The blood donor centre in Bethal will be hosting the Arrested …. Blood Requested project in Bethal on Saturday, December 3.
Dot Prinsloo, Donor Relations Practitioner of the Teksa branch (Bethal and Secunda) of the South African National Blood Service, said they need the community’s help to grow in their commitment of helping to save the lives of many South Africans by providing blood.
The purpose of the Arrested ….. Blood Requested project is to ‘arrest’ prominent people of the community who must then recruit 10 donors to donate blood for their release.
The ‘prisoners’ for the day are Juanita Smith, Jackie van den Berg, Nonhlanhla Shabalala, Anelda Postma, Francois Strydom, Wicus Marx, Le Clue Nienaber, Panda Shaw, Basie Strydom, Phethile Masango and Antoinette Shabangu.
The SANBS’ goal for the day is to collect more than 100 units of blood.
Prinsloo said the most units of blood that had been collected with this project, was 124 units of blood in 2019.
The SANBS will provide the ‘prisoners’ with electronic posters that can help them to market the event.
“As usually, with this project, the involvement from the community is overwhelming, and our ‘prisoners’ for the day are very enthusiastic which makes this day one to never be forgotten,” said Prinsloo.
“This project helps us to improve blood collection, but the most important issue raised after this event, is that the ‘volunteer prisoners’ experience, mostly for the first time in their lives, how difficult it is to get donors to donate blood.
“This is what the SANBS struggles with daily as less than 1% of the population donates blood.
“Blood is a valuable resource that makes a difference in many lives in need of medical treatment.”
The Arrested……..Blood Requested project will kick off at 08:00 and continue until 15:00.
