Ten people die in accident on road between Morgenzon and Amersfoort
MEC asks motorists to stop speeding and overtaking on dangerous places.
An accident between a sedan and a light delivery vehicle (LDV) on the R35 road between Morgenzon and
Amersfoort claimed the lives of 10 people on Saturday night, November 3. The vehicles collided head-on at about 22:00 and at least one of the vehicles caught on fire.
Each vehicle transported five people. The victims were certified dead on the scene and include both drivers and their passengers.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
According to the spokesman for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DSSL), Moeti Mmusi, dangerous overtaking may have been the cause of this collision.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, is concerned about this seeming unending loss of life on the road.
According to the MEC, moving traffic violations such dangerous overtaking and excessive speeding have been identified as some of the major causes of deadly crashes during the previous holiday seasons.
“Head on collisions, excessive speeding and pedestrians fatalities remain some of the challenges that we will focus on this holiday season.
“We are appealing to road users to work with us in reducing crashes on the road,” said the MEC.
Shongwe called on all people who will be going to various festivities to obey the rules and drive with caution.
