Teacher from Standerton launches third book

Ishara Pillay, a teacher at Standerton Primary School, launched her third book on Saturday, December 3 at the school.

Pillay’s first book, 2020, was launched in April 2021 and her second book, Alyssa’s Secret, was launched in January this year.

Apart from the three books, Pillay also wrote a short story that was published in an anthology called Motherhood Honesty as well as another short story and two poems which were published in another anthology called Multi-Marketing.

Her latest book, titled Not All Heroes Wear Capes, tells the story of an energetic, fun, loving boy who is involved in an accident.

The accident leaves him disabled and shatters his dream of becoming a star rugby player.

With this book, Pillay wants to send out the message to children that no matter how difficult their circumstances are, they can overcome anything if they put their minds to it.

She wants to target children between the ages of eight and 12 years old with this children’s book, however, the message the book carries is relevant for all ages.

“The main message of the book is: ‘Never give up on your dreams and you can achieve anything that you set your mind to do’,” said Pillay.

She enjoys working with children and have more than 30 years experience as a teacher. She was born in KwaZulu-Natal and had been living in Standerton since 1990.

Pillay consider her faith and her family to be the most important part of her life and she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
