Accident near Secunda leaves man critically injured

Five patients sustained minor injuries and were transported to hospital.

Emergency services had to free a 26-year-old man from his vehicle after he was involved in an accident on the R546 near Secunda on the evening of February 2.

According to Ross Campbell, the spokesperson for ER24, they arrived at the scene at 17:25 along with the police, another private emergency service and the fire departments from Secunda and Evander.

The man’s light vehicle collided with a bus.

He sustained critical injuries and was taken to the hospital. Five adults travelling on the bus suffered minor injuries.

When the emergency services arrived, the man’s vehicle was still under the bus’ front end.

Medical personnel gave advanced life support to the man while the fire department used the jaws of life to free him from his vehicle.
