Standerton’s Strydom-boys return from first tennis tournament

Khumalo now uses the tennis court at Gert Sibande College due to the vandalism at the Standerton Tennis Club.

Aldo and Wian Strydom from Team Me Up Academy competed at the Highveld Tennis Tournament in Mbombela (Nelspruit) at the weekend of January 28.

Wian ended third in boys U15, while Aldo ended fifth in boys U19.

Aldo obtained second place in the U18 inter-district championship, while Wian came first in the U15 division.

“I’m glad the boys did great at their first tournament of the year,” head coach Mathew Khumalo said.

Khumalo now uses the tennis court at Gert Sibande College to coach, due to the vandalism at the Standerton Tennis Club.

“We have so much talent in Standerton and unless something is done about the municipal facilities, tennis will become history in town,” he added.

According to him, they are attempting to secure a lease.

The academy has lined up school tennis development and coaching clinics across all ages for this year.
