The ripple effect on the business community was huge. A businessman, who prefers to stay anonymous, said on February 9 they had to close shop and send their staff home.
“The protest was peaceful, but I lost income,” he said.
“Who has to carry the loss?”
Roads were open for traffic at about 13:00, but staff had to return to work and businesses were only operating by 15:00.

The Standerton Advertiser reported in its edition of February 10 on the angry parents of Sizakhene Primary School, who closed the school.
According to information, letters had been sent to the Department of Education about overcrowding.
The enrolment number at the school was supposed to be 900 but the figure increased to 1 300.
A source said earlier that 81 learners are sitting at home.
The newspaper had already contacted the provincial spokesperson of the department via WhatsApp and resent the message on Thursday.
