Cullinan kicks off with health outreach
New initiative launched to attend to elderly and frail closer to their homes.
The Golden Oldies Outreach Programme is a new initiative to help the elderly who are unable or incapable to sit in provincial clinics for many hours waiting to be assisted.
The programme kicked off in Cullinan with a team of experts that included podiatrists, physiotherapists, an audiologist, social workers, occupational therapists, dieticians, mental health coordinators, sports instructors, mental health practitioners, health promotors, mental health nurses and SASSA coordinators.
“The elderly and frail will benefit from the personal attention during our regular outreach programmes, which will take place in region five and seven on Fridays,” said team leader JB Bekker.

All residents were weighed and measured by dieticians and qualified nurses did blood pressure and sugar level tests.
An audiologist assisted with hearing checks and Cansa handled cancer screenings, while the Clinix hospital team assisted with physiotherapy and massages.
“This outreach aims to attend to the elderly at our municipal facilities more effectively closer to their residence,” said Bekker.
