GMM to clean parkrun route in Secunda

Secunda parkrun and GMM agreed that GMM’s Expanding Public Works Programme (EPWP) would clean the area before the parkrun started.

Parkrunners were greeted every Saturday by filth and pollution left behind by people partying in the picnic area at Trichardtspruit Dam on PDP Kruger Street.

Secunda parkrun members approached the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) with concerns over the lack of grass-cutting along the parkrun route and sought a solution to the mess left behind.

More than 200 parkrunners do the Secunda parkrun every Saturday, and it attracts visitors from other towns.

Secunda parkrun and GMM agreed that GMM’s Expanding Public Works Programme (EPWP) would clean the area before the parkrun started.

By playing their part in giving back to the community, Extreme Thoughts (landscaper) volunteered to cut the grass along the parkrun route and the picnic area.

The Secunda parkrun community thanked the GMM’s Yakhani Sondlo, his EPWP team, Simphiwe Mvundla and his team from Extreme Thoughts for their help and commitment to this project.
