Actor from Secunda lands first big role in TV series

Brian Sindane is excited about his future.

Brian Sindane always enjoyed it to play roles in drama performances in school in Soshanguve near Pretoria where he grew up.

In a house with two other siblings, Sindane had to help to put bread on the table.

“I had to sell chicken feet every weekend at the club and every day after school,” said Sindane.

Growing up in Soshanguve was difficult for Sindane because there was a lot of crime, drugs and drinking.

After he had to drop out of school to provide for his family, Sindane did a one-year course in electrical engineering at a college and he began working at an adventure camp in his hometown.

He moved to Secunda three years ago and opened his own business. He also then decided to pursue a career in acting.

“At first I was not getting any auditions, but two months ago I finally had a breakthrough,” said Sindane.

He landed his first big role in a drama series called Icala, which is broadcast on Mzansi Magic channel.

Secunda actor Brian Sindane landed his first big role in a television series, Icala.

Before this breakthrough, Sindane played as an extra in a few drama series, but he did not appear visibly on television.

“They were looking for a criminal, a scary man for Icala and I decided to go for the audition.”

Sindane said he was nervous when the episode was filmed to perform with so many famous actors whom one only sees on television.

“All of a sudden, for the role I had to interact with them, sit down with them, talk to them, touch them, so it was scary for me.”

Two of the actors on set who made a huge impression on him and helped him a lot are Sannah Mchunu and Lerato Mvelase.

“They said to me: ‘This is your breakthrough, just follow the script’. It went well with the filming. It took one shot and then the director said they were impressed.”

In his free time, Sindane enjoys car spinning, even though he has not really pursued this hobby yet, spending time with his family or playing soccer.
