Water levels improve at Grootdraai Dam

Only two dams in the Gert Sibande District recorded declines in water levels – Nooitgedacht Dam dropped from 100.2% to 100.0%, and Jericho Dam dropped from 76.4% to 75.0%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation’s reservoirs report dated February 5 shows that water levels continue to improve in listed dams and water management areas in Mpumalanga.

According to their statement, average levels increased by 0.3 % from last week’s 97.5% to 97.8%.

In the water management areas, the Olifants increased by 0.1% from 87.4% to 87.5%, and the Inkomati-Usuthu recorded a 0.3% increase from 97.2% to 97.5%.

All three districts recorded improvements, with Ehlanzeni recording a 0.2% increase from 99.8% to 100.0%, Gert Sibande recorded a 0.5% increase from 94.8% to 95.3%, and Nkangala increased by 0.1% from 99.8% to 99.9%.

The dams that recorded improvements in the Gert Sibande District include the Grootdraai Dam, from 94.2% to 95.1%. Vygeboom went from 100.7% to 100.9%, Westoe from 60.8% to 62.8%, Morgenstond from 95.6% to 96.1% and Heyshope from 100.1% to 100.5%.

Despite the improved water levels, the department encouraged the public to use water wisely and sparingly because SAa is a water-scarce country.
