Water levels in Grootdraai Dam in Standerton improve to 97%
The report also shows the average dam levels in Mpumalanga increased from 97.8% to 98.1%
The water levels in Grootdraai Dam in the Integrated Vaal River System in Standerton continue to rise.
According to a statement from the Department of Water and Sanitation, their reservoirs report dated February 12 shows an improvement of a further 1.9% increase from last week’s 95.1% to 97.0%.
This is in line with the Gert Sibande District, which recorded an improvement from 95.3% to 95.9%.
For the other listed dams in the district, the Nooitgedacht, Vygeboom, and Westoe dams followed the Grootdraai Dam.
Jericho, Morgenstond, and Heyshope recorded declines in water volumes.
Nooitgedacht increased from 100.1% to 101.1%, Vygeboom from 100.9% to 101.0%, and Westoe from 62.6% to 64.7%.
Jericho dropped from 75.0% to 74.6%, Morgenstond from 96.1% to 95.8%, and Heyshope from 100.5% to 100.3%.
The report also shows the average dam levels in Mpumalanga increased from 97.8% to 98.1%.
In the Water Management Areas, the Olifants increased from 87.5% to 87.7%, while the Inkomati-Usuthu remained unchanged at 97.5%.
For the districts, Ehlanzeni and Nkangala remained unchanged at 100.0% and 99.9%, respectively, while Gert Sibande recorded an increase from 95.3% to 95.9%.
The department urged the public to continue using the available water wisely, sparingly and conservatively because SA is a water-scarce country.
