VKLM warns about illegal dumping

The notice further explained that illegal dumping or abandoning waste is the disposal of unwanted materials in inappropriate places, be it household rubbish, building waste or industrial debris.

The municipal manager at Victor Khanye Local Municipality (VKLM) in Delmas, Thabo Mashabela, sent a stern warning about illegally dumping waste in the municipal area.

According to the notice, it is an offence to dispose of waste in an area not designated for such an activity.

The notice further explained that illegal dumping or abandoning waste is the disposal of unwanted materials in inappropriate places, be it household rubbish, building waste or industrial debris.

According to Mashabela, the municipality gazetted waste by-laws to govern waste management issues on June 2, 2017.

In line with section 9.5 of the VKLM Waste Notice number 2817 of June 2, 2017, it is an offence to dump waste in an area not designated for such an activity.

Mashabela further stated that should a person be found dumping or abandoning waste illegally, they are guilty of an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a prison sentence not exceeding 15 years or a maximum fine of R10 000 or both.
