The average dam levels in the province increased from 98.1% to 98.7%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation’s State of Reservoirs report of February 19 shows that Grootdraai Dam continues to rise and has now breached the 100% mark.

The dam is in the Integrated Vaal River System in the Gert Sibande District in Mpumalanga. According to a statement from the department, it recorded a further 3.9% increase from last week’s 97.0% to 100.9%.

Nooitgedacht and Vygeboom are the only listed dams in the district that recorded declines in water levels, dropping from 101.1% to 100.3% and 101.0% to 100.7%, respectively.

The remaining listed dams in the district joined the Grootdraai Dam in increasing water volumes. According to the report, Jericho Dam increased from 74.6% to 75.2%, Westoe from 64.7% to 65.7%, Morgenstond from 95.8% to 95.9% and Heyshope from 100.3% to 100.0%.
