Gustav Potgieter wins Round 1 of the Womza Rally in Bronkhorstspruit
The Autobar Fitment Centre 150 Rally took place on March 2.
Round 1 of the 2024 Womza Rally Championship, namely the Autobar Fitment Centre 150 Rally, took place on March 2 in the Bronkhorstspruit area on the farms of Corné Fourie and Gustav Potgieter.
Seventeen teams from across SA entered the race.
Potgieter and Carolyn Swan were the overall winners of the event in their Ford, with a total stage time of 01:18:47, followed in second by Vladimir Sibirko and Danie Rossouw in their Subaru with a time of 01:23:16.
The third overall podium position went to Paul Saayman and Devon Mellet in their Volkswagen with a time of 01:36:15.
Round 1 Group A results: Sibirko and Rossouw in first place, Hennie Austin and Dewald Els in second, and Lynton Swatton and Tommy Coetzee in third.
Group B top three: Potgieter and Swan in first place, Marnoe van Niekerk and Francois Keyser in second, and Johan Erasmus and Phillip van der Walt in third.
Group C saw Paul Snyman and Devon Mellet as group winners, followed by Schalk van Niekerk and Craige Naude in second, and the final step on the podium went to Russel Stone and Johnty Brown.
Group D only had two entries. Evan and Rob Sartain placed first, and in second were Jayson Groenewald and Pierre Jordaan.
Round 2 of the WRC Championship, namely the Lowveld Rally, will take place on the April 19 and 20 weekend in the White River area.
