Grootdraai Dam at 98.9%

In terms of water levels per district, all three districts in Mpumalanga recorded declines in water levels.

Grootdraai Dam recorded a 1.9% drop as it dipped below the 100% mark. The dam is in the Integrated Vaal River System in the Gert Sibande District of Mpumalanga.

According to the Department of Water and Sanitation’s reservoirs report, dated March 4, it dropped from 100.8% to 98.9%.

In terms of the other listed dams in the district, only Westoe Dam remained unchanged at 67.0%, while the rest recorded declines in water volumes.

The other dams that recorded drops in water levels include Nooitgedacht from 99.6% to 98.7%, Vygeboom from 100.6% to 100.2%, Jericho from 74.7% to 73.5%, Morgenstond from 95.2% to 94.2% and Heyshope from 100.3% to 100.1%.

The report also shows that the average levels in the province also dropped from 98.5% to 97.9%. In the Water Management Areas, the Olifants remained unchanged at 87.2% while the Inkomati-Usuthu dropped from 97.5% to 97.1%.

In terms of water levels per district, all three districts in Mpumalanga recorded declines in water levels. Ehlanzeni dropped from 99.9% to 99.8%, Gert Sibande dropped from 97.0% to 96.1% and Nkangala dropped from 99.6% to 99.2%.

The department, urged the public to use available water wisely, sparingly and in a more conservative manner, taking into consideration that South Africa is a water-scarce country.
