Woman gives birth and dumps baby in drain in Evander

A woman gave birth to a baby at about 06:30 this morning (April 4) in an open field in Evander near the Gert Sibande College.

According to Sergeant Zuki Mxhotyelwa, spokesperson for Evander Police, the woman allegedly dumped the baby in a drain after giving birth and then left.

The police still found the placenta on the grass close to where the infant was dumped.

The police are currently looking for the woman or anyone with information about the woman’s whereabouts.

The baby was spotted by a pedestrian who contacted the police and emergency services.

The baby was rescued and taken to hospital for medical attention.
