Water levels at Grootdraai Dam at 96.7%

The report also showed the average levels in Mpumalanga increased from 97.1% to 98.2%.

The Grootdraai Dam leads an improvement in Gert Sibande District listed dam levels.

According to the reservoirs report from the Department of Water and Sanitation, dated April 15, the dam in the Integrated Vaal River System in Standerton led most of the listed dams in recording improvements in water levels over the past week.

Grootdraai Dam recorded an improvement from 95.1% to 96.7%.

The other listed dams to have recorded improvements include Nooitgedacht, from 96.0% to 96.9%, Westoe from 69.3% to 70.0%, Morgenstond with the highest improvement, from 91.4% to 100.7%, and Heyshope from 100.8% to 102.7%.

On the downside of the district, the Vygeboom and Jericho dams recorded declines, dropping from 101.6% to 100.9% and 70.0% to 69.8%, respectively.

The report also showed the average levels in Mpumalanga increased from 97.1% to 98.2%.

In the Water Management Areas, the Olifants WMA increased from 86.5% to 87.5%, and the Inkomati-Usuthu from 97.3% to 98.9%.

For levels per district, Gert Sibande improved from 94.8% to 96.9%, Nkangala increased from 98.0% to 98.9%, and Ehlanzeni dropped from 100.4% to 100.0%.

The department called on the public to conserve water and use the available water wisely and sparingly, bearing in mind that the dry winter season is upon us and that SA is a water-scarce country.
