Archer family loses their home to a fire

Marianne Archer's dog, Ginny, died in the fire.

The Archer family lost everything when a fire destroyed their wooden house in Drakensberg Street at Bronkhorstbaai on July 5.

They suspect the gas bottle exploded due to a veld fire, which caused the house to go up in flames.

The owner, Marianne Archer, was in town in Bronkhorstspruit when her house caught fire.

The neighbours rushed to help extinguish the blaze until the fire department arrived.

Firefighters doused the flames, but the fire had destroyed the whole house. Archer’s dog, Ginny, died in the fire.
Everything, from the beds and furniture to the clothes, burnt to ashes.

Archer has asked the community for help with clothes, bedding, electrical appliances or finances.

She worked at a doggy parlour in Bronkhorstspruit for decades, serving the community and its animals.

Archer said, “I have been so overwhelmed with all the support I am getting from the community.”

The fire department is still conducting investigations into the cause of the fire.
