Hawks arrest additional suspect for suspected stolen property in Leandra

The first accused, Mezan Mohammed, made his first appearance before the Leslie Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

A 41-year-old Bangladeshi national was arrested by the Secunda-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, on October 28 as an additional accused in a possession of suspected stolen property case.

His arrest followed after further investigation revealed his involvement with his brother, who was initially apprehended.

His brother Mezan Mohammed (30) was arrested on October 25 for possession of suspected stolen property worth over R500 000.

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation received information on Friday about a truck that was offloading stock at a farm in Leandra.

When the team arrived on the farm, they noticed a truck offloading goods. The members proceeded to the main building where a large quantity of goods were found.

Goods inclusive of food items and cleaning detergent in boxes were confiscated. A white Hino truck was also seized.

The first accused, Mezan Mohammed, made his first appearance before the Leslie Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The matter was postponed to November 1. The second accused is expected to appear before the court on October 29.
