Water levels continue to drop

Dam levels in the Gert Sibande district continue to drop, with the Grootdraai Dam standing at 72.1%.

As dam levels continue to drop in Mpumalanga, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) calls on the public to be more conservative in its water use.

According to the DWS report for October 21, provincial water reserves dropped from 81.6% to 80.6%.

The Gert Sibande Water Management Area suffered a loss of 0.3%, going from 80.8% to 80.5%.

Most listed dams in Mpumalanga recorded decreases. The Grootdraai Dam dropped from 72.5% to 72.1% and the Nooitgedacht Dam from 77.3% to 76.9%.

Vygeboom suffered a loss of 1.1%, going from 93.0% to 91.9%. The Jericho Dam dropped from 69.6% to 68.0%, while

Westoe went from 35.4% to 35.3%. The Morgenstond Dam dropped from 69.6% to 69.0%, and, finally, Heyshope suffered a 0.1% drop, from 96.1% to 96.0%.

The DWS reminds the public that SA is a water-scarce country.

“We urge the community to use water sparingly and prevent water waste by reporting and fixing water leaks regularly,” concluded the report.
