Neighbourhood watch assists in accidents

A red Ford Ranger and a Volkswagen Polo had collided on the bridge, causing the Ford to fly over the railing and nearly land in the river.

The AfriForum neighbourhood watch gathered on October 25 to patrol the streets of Standerton and keep the community safe.

Around 19:00 vehicles took off from PKG and spread to different areas in the town. At 20:50 members came across an accident on the Meyerville bridge.

A red Ford Ranger and a Volkswagen Polo had collided on the bridge, causing the Ford to fly over the railing and nearly land in the river. The Volkswagen stood in the middle of the road before the driver promptly fled the scene on foot.

The neighborhood watch arrived on scene and started regulating traffic. EMS and the SAPS were notified and All Star Towing took the vehicles out of the way.

No one was injured and traffic could resume. After clearing the scene, the neighbourhood watch left for Engen Garage to gather strength for the long night ahead.

An accident on the intersection of Beyers Naude and Baumann streets.

Not five minutes later, the watch members were notified about another accident that occurred at the intersection of Beyers Naudé and Bauman streets.

Two vehicles have collided, resulting in a chaotic scene. Two patients were rushed to Standerton Hospital with serious injuries.

Just then, chaos erupted on the scene as fights broke out among those left behind. There were also shouting and one victim even reported being bitten.

To break up the fight, Bakgat K9 arrived on the scene with Koedoe, causing the crowd to scatter.

Bophelo Emergency Services assisted injured patients and the AfriForum neighbourhood watch, along with other security companies kept the scene contained while the SAPS investigated the scene. Seeing every cog in Standerton’s Emergency Services team turn at once was a great honour.
