Lekwa Municipality launches employment initiative

This initiative will help connect the community with job opportunities and ensure those in need have the means to apply for jobs

The Lekwa Local Municipality joined forces with the Department of Labour on January 7 to achieve its goal of creating a local unemployment database.

According to a statement released by the municipality, this initiative will help connect the community with job opportunities and ensure those in need have the means to apply for jobs.

The programme was launched in many wards, starting with Ward 11 at the community hall. Wards 1, 2 and 5 residents could attend the sessions from the Youth Centre.

Wards 3, 4 and 6 hosted sessions at Stanwest Hall, followed by Wards 7, 10 and 15 in the Ext 6 Community Hall. Finally, the events came to an end at Khunjuliwe Primary School with a final meeting for the residents of Wards 8 and 9.

“This new programme is a significant step toward tackling unemployment locally by ensuring that opportunities are matched to the workforce within the municipality,” said Lubabalo Majenge, spokesperson for the LLM.

According to the statement, the purpose of this database is to enable better, more targeted solutions to local employment issues.

The municipality wants to ensure that jobs are given to qualified individuals in the community. Working closely with the Department of Labour ensures that the skills of the local workforce are aligned with the expectations of employers.
