Parkrun back on track after flood waters in Standerton

The Standerton River Park parkrun celebrated their 281st event on January 18 after cancelling the previous week’s event due to water levels of the Vaal River.

According to run director Renette de Sousa, this was only the third time in seven years that parkrun was cancelled.

“Our events endure through any weather, the only time we cancel events is when the events hinder the safety of our participants,” added De Sousa.

Several runners achieved new personal best times during this event, including Pieter Jansen van Vuuren (23:10) and Sibusiso Wilson Dlangalala (30:20).

Bongane Mpokane completed the 5km track first with a time of (23:10). Timothy Hoop completed the dash with a time of 22:18 while Eugene Viljoen enjoyed a time of 25:18.
