Grootdraai Dam’s level remains stable

According to Brian Khoza, communications officer for the DWS, the average dam levels in the province stand at 95.2%, a small increase compared to last week's level of 04.%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation released a statement on February 11, detailing the slight increases in water levels in Mpumalanga.

According to Brian Khoza, communications officer for the DWS, the average dam levels in the province stand at 95.2%, a small increase compared to last week’s level of 04.%. Water levels in the Gert Sibande District saw a 0.1% increase to 97.6%.

“Despite these improvements, the overall water volumes remain lower than those recorded during the same period last year. Some areas experienced a decline in water levels, while others saw slight increases or remained stable,” said Khoza.

Mixed results were recorded in the Gert Sibande district, with Grootdraai Dam remaining stable at 101.6%. Jericho Dam and Westoe Dam recorded increases from 9.9% to 80.2% and 92.3% to 93.7% respectively.

Morgenstond Dam increased from 74.7% to 75.9%.

Dams that recorded declines include Nooitgedacht Dam, which dropped from 101.0% to 100.3%, Vygeboom Dam, from 100.5% to 100.4% and Heyshope Dam, which dropped from 101.2% to 101.1%.

“The DWS urges citizens to use water sparingly, as South Africa remains one of the world’s 30 driest countries,” concluded Khoza.
