WATCH: People save dog from underneath container
They are looking for the owner of the dog, if anybody has any information, they can contact KHAWS at 069 999 3371.
A dog trapped underneath a container for several days was successfully rescued today (March 18), thanks to the efforts of multiple organisations and emergency personnel.
The National SPCA called in the help of Marius van Reeuwyk of the South African Animal Welfare Inspectorate Association (SAAWIA) and Captain Heintjie Alberts from the Secunda Police K9 Unit.
They teamed up with the Evander Police, Govan Mbeki Fire Brigade, Jelani Security, and Khulula Animal Welfare Society (KHAWS) to lift the heavy container and free the distressed animal.
Due to the container’s weight and positioning, the team had to use the Jaws of Life to carefully lift it and access the trapped dog.
“We suspect she had been trapped there since Friday or Saturday afternoon because the business was closed over the weekend,” said Van Reeuwyk.
After two hours of intense efforts, the dog was finally rescued and taken to a veterinarian for a check-up. She is now safe and in the care of KHAWS, who are actively looking for her rightful owner.
Anyone with information regarding the dog’s owner is urged to contact KHAWS at 069 999 3371.
