Province donates two mobile libraries

In celebration of Human Rights Day, MEC Leah Mabuza donated two mobile libraries and sports equipment worth R16 million to enhance education and sports access in the Gert Sibande Region, urging the community to protect these valuable resources.

eMBALENHLE – The Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sports, and Recreation MEC, Leah Mabuza, handed over two mobile libraries and sports equipment to the community of the Gert Sibande Region.

This is in celebrating the Human Rights Day on March 21, at the community hall in Ext 18, eMbalenhle. According to Mabuza, the libraries cost R16m. Mabuza also handed sports attire and equipment to 29 sports clubs and schools.

“As we are handing over these two mobile libraries and sports equipment, we are strengthening human rights to education and sports as enshrined in our country’s Constitution. We saw a need to donate these libraries to assist those communities who are not close to libraries.

“We will create a schedule for mobile libraries to reach communities and schools, ensuring our learners and communities can easily access resources such as computers, Wi-Fi, and books to obtain information for free.

“These libraries will be accessible to learners and community members in the surrounding areas,” Mabuza explained.

She appealed to the communities to take care of these libraries and not to burn them down.
