Junior golf players practice skills at golf day in Secunda

The day saw 36 youngsters take to the greens.

Young golf players participated in the first annual Junior Golf Day at Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club on March 30.

There were three divisions for the 36 junior players. The youngest competitor was six years old. Sphamandla Sibeko was the overall winner with an 81 gross score.

He scored 36 on the first nine flat rounds and 45 on the second round. In the C division, from the age of six years, participants played nine holes from a tee-off from 150m to the green.

There were no winners. All the children who took part received prizes. The B division consisted of girls beginners and girls who played IPS in nine holes.

Boiketlo Lekhula won with 14 points and received a winning trophy. Thato Ngobeni finished second with 10 points and Nhlanhla Ngozo was third with nine points.

Mthobisi Mahlangu won the A division (older junior golf players) with an 84 gross and a 59 nett score. Sphamandla Sibeko finished second with a 69 nett score and a winning 81 gross.

Benjamin Gama finished third with an 81 gross and a 69 nett. Nearest to the pin on hole 12 was Mthobisi Mahlangu.
The longest drive on hole 14 was by King Khoza.

The organisers of the golf day thanked their sponsors of the day, including Graceland Casino, Hotel and Country Club’s management, Candice Duval, coaches Isaac Mahlangu, Victor Mashile and Ernest Khumalo, Money Gamers Golf Club, Bruce Moyo of Eskom, Eskort in Secunda and all the caddies and parents.
