The Lekwa Local Municipality partnered with the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) on March 25 to donate school uniforms to Nyandeni Primary School in Sakhile.
According to Lubabalo Majenge, communications officer of Lekwa Local Municipality, the aim of this donation was to enstill confidence and security in learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“We aimed at promoting equality and dignity among the learners of the school,” said Majenge.
The donation was led by Executive Mayor Sifiso Mngemezulu and Smanga Ngwenya (municipal councillor). The school principal, David Tsotetsi, expressed his gratitude for the generous donation of 30 school uniforms, stating that each child deserves to feel included.

Ngwenya was personally affected by this donation, as he is part of the school’s alumni.
“I remember when Tsotetsi was my teacher in school, seeing the positive impact this donation has on these children means a lot to me,” said Ngwenya.
The mayor expressed how heartwarming it was to him to see young learners receiving the necessary tools to pursue their education with dignity.
He believes that this donation is a step towards empowering learners to write their own futures and that it highlights the power of unity and responsibility to uplift the youth.
