Gert Sibande Municipality hosts staff sports day
The municipality promoted its employees’ well-being in the workplace.
The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) hosted an Employee Wellness Sports Day at the AJ Swanepoel Stadium in Ermelo on March 19.
It drew a great turnout of employees, who braved the rain to participate in the day’s activities, as did speaker of council Busisiwe Sekhondes.
The municipality is committed to promoting workplace wellness and emphasising the importance of a healthy work-life balance for all employees. Municipal manager Absenia Habile was also at the event to encourage the contestants.
The event, organised by the Department of Corporate Services, had a range of activities promoting physical fitness, teamwork and overall well-being. The employees enjoyed soccer, aerobics, tug-o-war, sack races and the passing-the-ball challenge.

Msukaligwa Local Municipality employees were invited to join in the fun and engage in friendly competition, further strengthening the bond between the two municipalities within the same jurisdiction.
The LA Health, Bonitas and Keyhealth medical aid schemes, Sanlam Sky and Eutopian Wellness supported the event.
Other supporters, including the Institute of Management Accounting and Strategy, AVBOB, Shosholoza Finance, Clicks and Dischem pharmacies, provided on-site wellness services and health information, ensuring employees had access to valuable resources.
The day is part of the GSDM’s ongoing efforts to improve its employees’ health and well-being. It believes such events are vital in fostering a more productive, motivated and engaged workforce.
