The General Members Pastors Forum in eMbalenhle prays for safety on the roads

The organisation’s secretary general, Bongani Gwebu, explained that the initiative aimed to seek divine protection for all travelers, not only church congregants.

The General Members Pastors Forum in eMbalenhle held a special Easter holiday prayer session on April 6, targeting busy roads within the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) jurisdiction in preparation for the Easter weekend.

In an effort to ensure a safe holiday period, the pastors also visited local taxi ranks to pray for accident-free travels as congregants from various churches were expected to journey to different destinations for Good Friday gatherings.

Following their roadside prayers, the pastors moved to the eMbalenhle Sasol Club, where they conducted a mass prayer service.

The organisation’s secretary general, Bongani Gwebu, explained that the initiative aimed to seek divine protection for all travelers, not only church congregants.

“Our main intention for holding prayer sessions along all roads within GMM is to ask God to protect everyone who will be travelling to various destinations during the Easter holidays,” Gwebu said.

He added that involving the Vukanini Taxi Association was crucial as their drivers transport large numbers of commuters across provinces during this period.

“We asked for God’s protection and guidance for the taxi drivers, so their passengers can reach their destinations safely,” said Gwebu.

Gwebu also highlighted that the prayer sessions addressed pressing social issues within the community, including gender-based violence, drug abuse, and crime.

“Police alone cannot tackle these challenges. As church leaders, we must play our part because some victims and perpetrators are members of our congregations.

“If we preach against these scourges in our churches, it can help strengthen the fight and bring healing to our community,” concluded Gwebu.
