Average dam levels in Mpumalanga exceed 100%

The Gert Sibande District average increased from 100.9% to 101.6%, with most listed dams recording increases in water levels.

Average dam levels in Mpumalanga have raised past 100%, despite this, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) urges the public to continue using water sparingly.

According to the latest state of reservoirs report from April 21, average dam levels in Mpumalanga have recorded an increase from 99.9% to 100.4%.

The Gert Sibande District average increased from 100.9% to 101.6%, with most listed dams recording increases in water levels.

According to the statement, compiled by Wisane Mavasa, Spokesperson for the DWS, the only dams in the district that recorded improvements were Morgenstond Dam and Nooitgedacht Dam.

Grootdraai Dam, Heyshope Dam, Vygeboom Dam, Westoe Dam and Vygeboom Dam all recorded increases.

“While these figures are encouraging, the DWS warns against complacency. As the country heads into the dry winter season, the demand for water will rise,” said Mavasa.
