Woman appears in court on concealment of birth charges

The matter was postponed to May 28.

A 32-year-old woman facing charges of concealment of the birth of a newborn baby appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on April 23.

The court postponed the matter to May 28, pending further investigation.

The woman was arrested at her home in Secunda on February 20 after police followed CCTV footage leads of a vehicle the woman used to discard the dead newborn boy in a rubbish bin in the CBD by SuperSPAR, Eastside Centre, on Horwood Street on February 19.

A homeless man found the newborn’s body when digging inside the rubbish bin for tins and food.

The infant’s body was wrapped in a box in a Clicks plastic bag.

ER24 declared the baby dead on the scene.
