Standerton residents attend Budget and IDP meeting at town hall
The main concerns included the street lights in residential areas that have been non-functioning for several months, the state of roads, traffic lights and water supply.
The Lekwa Local Municipality held an IDP/Budget meeting in Ward 10 at the Standerton Town Hall.
Municipal representatives and members of the public gathered to voice concerns and speak about the latest developments within the municipality.
Ward 10 Clr Wilma Venter opened the meeting and introduced MMC Thabang Motaung, who addressed the latest developments.
Motaung explained that several developments are taking place such as upgrades to the water treatment plant and the refurbishment of local roads, including Vry, Princess and Beyers Naude streets.
After the floor was opened for locals to raise their concerns, several residents spoke out.

The main concerns included the street lights in residential areas that have been non-functioning for several months, the state of roads, traffic lights and water supply.
“Though the roads are being fixed, traffic lights are not functioning regularly,” said resident, Johan Roelofse.
Pat van der Westhuizen raised concerns about recyclers tearing refuse bags and leaving waste in the streets.
Riana Labuschagne made her point regarding hawkers that take business away from established shopping centres.
The LLM considered the complaints and will form action plans to tackle these items soon.
