eMbalenhle man turns disability into power

Lucky Skhosana's book My Disability is My Ability, is about his journey of self-discovery.

Lucky Skhosana, a passionate entrepreneur and community leader from eMbalenhle, has released his inspirational debut book titled My Disability is My Ability.

Born with cerebral palsy, Skhosana has never allowed his condition to define or limit his destiny. Instead, he has transformed adversity into purpose and is now using his voice to uplift others living with disabilities.

“With this deeply personal and inspiring book, I want to share the raw realities of growing up with a disability in a society that often overlooks and underestimates people like me.

Rather than being held back, I turned every challenge into motivation. I wrote this book to show the world that even when life says ‘you can’t,’ you still can,” says Skhosana.

In My Disability is My Ability, Skhosana writes about his journey of self-discovery, the strength he found through the support of his family, especially his parents and grandmother, and how he rose above fear and rejection to become a voice for the disabled community.

His message is clear – you can transform pain into power through honesty, perseverance, and purpose.

“Cerebral palsy tried to silence me, but I refused to stay quiet. Through honest storytelling, I reflect on my experiences and hope to inspire youth, encourage inclusion, and empower people to embrace their strength regardless of their circumstances,” said Skhosana.

Skhosana needs help from businesses, organisations and the community to launch his book. He plans to host a public launch and distribute copies to schools and disability centres to reach and uplift as many lives as possible.

“This book is not just mine – it belongs to everyone who has heard they are not enough. I want to launch it in a way that reaches hearts and opens minds. I also need partners to walk this journey with me,” he said.

Skhosana is also the founder and chairperson of Sihlangene Information Centre, established in 2021 and supported by Sasol as an NPO.

Sihlangene operates three information centres across the Govan Mbeki municipal area – two in eMbalenhle and one in Charl Cilliers.

The eMbalenhle centres are based at KI Thwala Secondary School and Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School, while the third is at the Charl Cilliers Multi-Purpose Centre.

Skhosana said the organisation’s initial aim was to help disabled people acquire computer skills and gain access to information technology. However, as interest grew among local youth, the centre expanded its scope to include them.
