Bronkies child golfer wins Africa junior champs

Vezu Ngcobo (11) from Bronkhorstpruit is the new junior golf champion of Africa. He won the Delta Junior Championship in Botswana on April 26.

This U19 championship is tournament contested by 13 Southern African countries, France and Brazil. Vezu, the runner-up in last year’s tournament, was behind by a shot going to 17. He birdied the last two holes to snatch the championship title. He played 216 over 54 holes off a 0 handicap, which is level par.

This youngster, known as the Lion of Africa among his peers, began playing golf at four.

Vezu, a member at the Pretoria County Club, also stood out in April at the GNGU Junior 36-hole tournaments, claiming victory at Akasia and Zwartkop. He is currently leading the U13 rankings.
