Double amputee from Modder East Orchards takes everything in his stride
Johan Mulder’ is recovering well, despite a few setbacks in the hospital and multiple operations.
Double amputee Johan Mulder takes life in his stride and is determined to remain positive.
This 34-year-old boilermaker from Modder East Orchards lost both legs on March 1 when a tractor and slasher ran over him.
The injuries to Mulder’s legs were so severe that amputation was the only option.
“I decided I had so much more to live for. I was alive and had the support of my family, friends, and employer,” explained Mulder.
Mulder’s recovery went well despite a few setbacks in the hospital and multiple operations. He has been strong and in good spirits from the beginning of his ordeal.
“This is a setback, not the end of the world,” he said.
His faith and resilience keep him going, along with the support of Chantelle and their 14-year-old son, Heinrecht.
Mulder is still using a wheelchair, but is back at work and looking forward to receiving his prosthetics.
“I am going for my first fitting tomorrow,” he said on Tuesday.
