Help drum majorette from Secunda to achieve her dreams

Amory wants to participate in Oudshoorn at the nationals.

Amory Gouws (13) was chosen as vice-captain of the Mpumalanga team at the national South African drum majorettes championship from July 5 to 12 in Oudshoorn.

Amory started with drum majorettes when she was 10 years old at Laerskool Oranjegloed Primary School, where she is still a learner. Her mother, Sheena Gouws, said it is all she wants to do since she started with drum majorettes.

“Amory pours her heart and soul into the drum majorettes and is passionate about it,” said Sheena.

She does well in school, and Sheena is satisfied with her daughter’s marks and achievements. She said the opportunity for Amory to go to the nationals is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for her.

Amory Gouws (13) was chosen as the vice-captian for the Mpumalanga drum majorette’s team.

However, to make this dream a reality for Amory, the family needs about R30 000 to cover the travel expenses, accommodation and clothes she will need as part of the nationals.

Sheena lost her job last year and only Amory’s father is currently employed, making it tough to provide the money needed for the nationals.

This will be the last year that Amory can take part in drum majorette, as it is not an activity offered in high schools in the Secunda area.

“We would love to make this dream of her come true to participate in the nationals, especially since it is her last year in primary school,” said Sheena.
