Provincial dam levels at 100%

People must still use water sparingly and responsibly.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) released a media statement detailing the weekly state of reservoirs report for May 26.

The DWS continues to encourage the community to use water sparingly as average dam levels in Mpumalanga continue to drop.

The average provincial dam levels stand at 100%. The Gert Sibande district recorded decreases in average dam levels, dropping from 101% to 100.8%.

Most listed dams in the Gert Sibande district showed decreases in water levels.

The Grootdraai Dam dropped from 102.1% to 101.6%, The Vygeboom Dam from 99.1% to 98.5%, the Heyshope Dam from 100.9% to 100.8% and the Westoe Dam from 99.3% to 98.4%.

Two dams in the district remained stable. The Nooitgedacht Dam remained at 100.6%, and the Jericho Dam was unchanged at 102.1%.

The Morgenstond Dam was the only dam in the district that recorded an increase in water levels, from 99.8% to 100.3%.

“Though water levels look satisfactory, the DWS reminds citizens that SA remains a water-scarce country,” said Themba Khoza, spokesperson for the DWS.

He urged the community to use water sparingly and responsibly.
