Leandra man dies after setting his family alight

The wife is in stable condition in Evander Hospital, but the couple’s 2-year-old child has been transferred to the ICU at Witbank Hospital.

Police in Leandra are investigating an attempted murder case after a 30-year-old man set himself, his wife and their 2-year-old toddler alight on June 5.

According to Constable Nontobeko Ngubeni, Leandra Police spokesperson, the man used petrol to kill himself and his family. He died from his injuries in the Evander Hospital.

The wife is currently in a stable condition at the same hospital, but their little one has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Witbank Hospital.

Ngubeni said the police were only informed about the incident on June 9.
