Mahlaba elected as new council speaker for Lekwa
She encouraged her peers and fellow councilors to prioritise the highest standard of service delivery.
Phindile Mahlaba is the new Speaker of the Council at Lekwa Municipality. Her appointment, follows the resignation of Dumisani Msibi from the post.
Mahlaba, a member of the EFF, was elected as speaker at a special council meeting on June 4.
After her election, Mahlaba expressed sincere gratitude and made a commitment to ensure that the decorum of the council is maintained at all times.
“I commit to work with all the party whips and councilors to ensure that we conduct the business of the council in a manner that will ensure we provide the correct oversight that will lead to effective service delivery to all our communities,” stated Mahlaba as she took the seat for the first time.
She encouraged her peers and fellow councilors to prioritise the highest standard of service delivery and discouraged political fighting during council meetings.
