Senior choir from Govan Mbeki Municipality is ready to perform

The choir is comprised of older persons from various NPOs across the municipality.

The Vintage Choral Serenade (VCS), a choir of elderly residents from the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM), performed at the Mpumalanga Provincial Government Africa Public Service Day celebration on June 19 at the eMbalenhle Sasol Club.

The choir is comprised of older persons from various NPOs across the municipality.

It was established in January last year as a provincial choir to represent Mpumalanga at the national Older Persons Active Ageing Celebration in Rustenburg, North West, in March 2024.

Following their performance at the national event, the group continued their musical journey and officially named the choir Vintage Choral Serenade.

According to Clansina Rathebe, one of the founding members, the group meets weekly or fortnightly for rehearsals.
The members, aged 60 and older, come from diverse backgrounds within the community.

Rathebe added that the Department of Social Development plays a key role in supporting the choir’s vision and growth.
