Owner of muscle shop in Secunda joins his employees in court for contravention of medicine and related substances act
Muscle Mecca director and staff appear in court for allegedly selling prescription medication without a licence - all granted R5 000 bail.
A director of Muscle Mecca in Secunda, Rianne Janse van Rensburg (32) was released on R5 000 bail after he appeared alongside his two employees in the Evander District Court today, July 17.
According to the Mpumalanga spokesperson for the Hawks, their appearance came after they were found selling controlled medicine without a valid licence.
The two employees, Paul Stephen Corbitt and Marco Rodolph Meintjies, were arrested by the Hawks Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation on September 11 after the court granted a search warrant.
Nkosi said pharmaceutical products that required prescriptions were sold over the counter, contravening the Medical and Substances Related Act.
“During the search, Jansen van Rensburg was not at the shop. Only the two employees were found and failed to produce the permit,” said Nkosi.
The employees were arrested and appeared in Evander District Court, where they were granted R5 000 bail each. The matter was postponed to July 17.
“During their appearance today, they were joined by their employer, Janse van Rensburg, who was arrested this morning. He was also released on R5 000 bail.”
The case was postponed to July 23.
Muscle Mecca also made headlines back in 2022 when the Hawks Vereeniging and the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Mpumalanga, based in Secunda arrested the then manager on March 10. According to Nkosi the two cases are not related. He could not confirm if the shop’s ownership has since changed.
