67 Blankets team brings warmth, joy to Morgenzon elderly
The 67 Blankets for Mandela Day team visited elderly residents across Morgenzon, handing out handmade scarves, beanies and blankets while sharing stories, hugs and tea.
The 67 Blankets for Mandela Day team headed to Morgenzon to spend their 67 Minutes for Mandela Day with the elderly.
Five team members loaded their vehicles with blankets, scarves and beanies and visited each old-age facility, giving time and care to the elderly residents.
As the women entered each home, the elderly residents’ eyes lit up.
“They were so happy to have that little bit of attention and care,” said Sangeeta Daya, the ambassador for the Standerton 67 Blankets initiative.
After warm conversations and many hugs, the team moved on to the next home until it reached Zonstraal Hall, whose residents were delighted to receive their scarves and beanies and enjoyed sharing stories with the women over tea and small bites.
The women distributed over 50 scarves, beanies, and nine blankets to those in need. The team had been working on the scarves since January, and it took about a month to complete all the necessary pieces.
Karen Viljoen donated all the beanies.
“It was a truly humbling and wonderful experience. We are so blessed to have had this opportunity,” concluded Daya.
