Community mourns loss of beloved pastor from Standerton
Doctor Simon Gumbi led a long, purposeful life and was widely recognised for his evangelism, motivational speaking, and passion for praise and worship.
Condolences have poured in following the passing of Dr Simon Gumbi on July 14 and his memorial service was held on July 22. Gumbi, described as a giant in the community, made a lasting impact through his work. He passed away at the age of 66 after a long battle with illness.
He was best known for his appearances on Ukhozi FM and his immense contributions to the gospel industry. News of his passing was confirmed by his family via social media.
Gumbi led a long, purposeful life and was widely recognised for his evangelism, motivational speaking, and passion for praise and worship.
The Executive Mayor of the Lekwa Local Municipality, Sifiso Mngomezulu, mourned his passing, stating: “We have lost a compassionate spiritual leader. His passing leaves a deep void—not only in his family, but in our lives and in the many hearts across the length and breadth of this country whom his ministry touched.”
Several Standerton residents also took to Facebook to express their condolences, with messages of “May his soul rest in peace” echoing through the comment section.
