Police and Department of Correctional Services officials take part in wellness day in Bethal
The wellness day that was held for police and the Department of Correctional Services helps to improve the mood, reduce stress and boost self-esteem.
The Social Crime Prevention with Men for Change and Women’s Network recently hosted a wellness day for police officials from neighbouring stations and Department of Correctional Services personnel at Bethal Police Station.
Bethal police spokesperson Sergeant Thomas Mogadime, who also serves as Mpumalanga Provincial Men for Change coordinator, explained that the event aimed to support the health and well-being of members to foster a more productive, efficient, and physically fit workforce.
“Wellness days like this help improve mood, reduce stress, and boost self-esteem, all contributing to better mental health. Good mental health, in turn, positively impacts physical health, creating a beneficial cycle,” said Mogadime.
The day’s activities included a 4.5km fun run or walk, followed by aerobics and netball sessions facilitated by Constable Darius Mouton and Sergeant Nompumelelo Mbokane.
Healthcare professionals provided a wide range of free health screenings and assessments such as blood pressure checks, sugar tests, HIV screening, dental assessments, orthotics and podiatry services, physiotherapy evaluations, optometry services, and phlebotomy tests including blood group, lung function, kidney function and allergy tests.
Participants were awarded medals to celebrate their involvement. The wellness day was organised in partnership with PACK Wellness Service and AVBOB.
