Police arrest man in Amersfoort for possession of drugs
According to Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the suspect had been under surveillance for some time before officers apprehended him.
The police arrested a man on July 25 during Operation Shanela. He is facing charges of drug dealing in Amersfoort. Information about a suspected drug dealer, reportedly obtained from an unknown source, led to a collaboration between the Hawks and the Standerton K9 Unit.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the suspect had been under surveillance for some time before officers apprehended him.
He was found in possession of 34 sachets of what police suspect to be nyaope, 13 tablets of Mandrax, and 16 sachets of crystal meth.
Police are in the process of confirming the types of drugs confiscated. The estimated street value of the drugs is R4 600. Illegal substances circulating on the streets continue to pose serious challenges for individuals trying to recover from addiction.
According to Pastor Quincy Jacobs of Cherith House, residents of rehab centres are the most vulnerable and are often targeted by drug dealers.
“It is sad to know that there are dealers out there who profit from recovering addicts,” said Jacobs.
Jacobs regarded every arrest as a win for the community and for the recovering addicts striving to turn their lives around.
