UPDATE: Violence among learners in eMbalenhle secondary schools worsens
Police, private security companies, and members of the Vukanini Taxi Association are currently monitoring the situation.
Tensions have reached a boiling point in eMbalenhle after learners from four local high schools protested yesterday. This morning, learners from KI Thwala Secondary School stormed Sizwakele Secondary School and Ikusasalethu Comprehensive School, damaging educators’ vehicles in the process.
At Ikusasalethu, the school gate was damaged as learners forced their way onto the premises while teaching and learning were in progress.
A confrontation also broke out between learners from Sizwakele Secondary School and those allegedly from KI Thwala.

Learners from both Ikusasalethu and Sizwakele secondary schools were sent home, as the situation was deemed unsafe for continued teaching and learning.
This latest outbreak of violence is allegedly in retaliation for an incident yesterday, during which learners from other schools descended on KI Thwala Secondary School in the afternoon, broke open the gate, and threw stones at teachers’ cars.
Police, private security companies, and members of the Vukanini Taxi Association are currently monitoring the situation.
