Standerton court to give judgement in bail application of Buhle’s alleged killers

Four suspects will appear in court again on August 28 for judgement on their bail hearing.

Four people appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on August 21, facing charges of murder and suspected rape in connection with the death of 20-year-old Buhlebenkosi Makhanda.

Makhanda was walking in Sakhile with a friend on May 31 when the two were cornered and robbed by four suspects. The suspects released Makhanda’s friend but held her, and her body was later found next to a graveyard, beaten, battered, and shot. Authorities also suspect that she was raped.

The case sparked community outrage and led to the creation of the hashtag #Justice4Buhle. Months after her tragic death, the community continues to mourn Makhanda.

The court postponed the matter to August 28 for a judgment on the suspects’ bail application.
