Rooikopen Performing Arts Group in Standerton calls for community support

The fundraising event on August 30 will showcase local talent as well as well-known artists. Entry fee is R50 per person.

The Rooikopen Performing Arts Group in Standerton is appealing for support in its mission to keep young people off the streets and away from drugs, teenage pregnancy, and crime.

The group urgently needs performing arts equipment, rehearsal space, and a dedicated centre.

The founder, Nomvula Sithole, said she established the organisation after noticing that many young people in the community were falling into drug use and crime due to a lack of entertainment and development opportunities.

“We cannot fold our arms while we can assist our community. That is why, together with other community members, we started the performing arts organisation in 2022, and formally registered it in 2023,” said Sithole.

She explained that the aim is to show young people they can grow and develop through their talents.

“Although we are struggling with equipment, performance kits, and a venue for rehearsals, we are determined to continue. We appeal to the community to support our upcoming fundraising event, where they will be entertained by both well-known and local artists showcasing our talent,” she added.

The fundraiser will take place on August 30 at the Rooikopen Community Hall in Standerton. Entry is R50 at the door, and the programme will feature competitions in kofifi, Limpopo, amapiano, and Xitsonga dances.
