Mpumalanga dam levels drop

The dam levels in the Gert Sibande District dropped from 98.3% to 97.9%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) released its weekly state of reservoirs report detailing dam water levels across Mpumalanga on August 26.

According to DWS spokesperson Wisane Mavasa, the provincial average dropped from 97.8% to 97.3% and the Gert Sibande District average from 98.3% to 97.9%.

All the listed dams in the district dropped below 100%, with none showing improvement in the past week.

The Nooitgedacht Dam dropped from 99.4% to 99.0%, the Jericho Dam from 94.4% to 93.2%, and Vygeboom Dam from 100.2% to 99.7%.
The Westoe Dam dropped from 79.8% to 77.6%, and the Morgenzon Dam from 100.0% to 99.8%.

Finally, the Heyshope Dam dropped marginally from 100.1% to 99.9%.

“The department reminds the public that SA is one of the 30 driest countries in the world and encourages communities to prioritise and improve water conservation methods in households,” concluded Mavasa.
